Ingredients:
Broken wheat1 Cup *
Channa dal1/4 Cup
Red chilli2
Grated Coconut1/4 Cup
Water2 Cups
SaltTo Taste
* 1 Cup Capacity = 250ml

For Seasoning:
Cooking Oil1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds1 teaspoon
Channa dal1 teaspoon
Split Urid dal1 teaspoon
Hinga Pinch
Curry Leavesfew

Method:
  1. Soak the channa dal and red chilli in water for half an hour. Meanwhile, heat a pan, add broken wheat and dry roast it for 3-4 minutes till we get a nice aroma

  2. After 30 minutes, drain the water from the dal and add the dal and red chilli to the mixer and grind it to a nice paste

  3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add channa dal and urid dal and fry till the dals turn brown colour. Add hing, curry leaves and fry for 10 seconds

  4. Add water along with grated coconut and ground paste and bring the water to boil. When the water starts to boil, add salt and broken wheat and mix well with the ladle to mix the wheat evenly without forming lumps. Keep the flame medium and allow the broken wheat to cook and the water to drain

  5. Allow the half-cooked, broken wheat upma to cool off. Then take lemon sized upma and roll it to make like kozhukattai. Grease the idli plates and place the upma kozhukattai and steam cook for 10 minutes.

  6. Serve the steam cooked Broken Wheat Upma Kozhukattai | Samba Godhumai Rava Upma Kozhukattai with coconut chutney or tomato chutney
