- 1 Cup Varagu Arisi (Kudo Millet) (1 Cup = 250ml)
- 1.5 Cup Grated Jaggery
- 2 tsp Moong Dal
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 1 tbsp Grated Coconut
- 2 Cup Water
- 1 tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
-
Dry roast the varagu arisi (Kudo Millet) till it becomes light brown. Allow it to cool off completely and grind it to a nice powder in a mixer.
-
Dry fry the moong dal in pan till it gives a good aroma. Add water to cook the dal and allow it to cook for 5 mins.
-
After 5 mins add 2 cups of water and add grated jaggery and stir it well till the jaggery dissolves in water.
-
Now add the millet flour and mix it evenly. At last add cardamom powder, grated coconut and mix it well. Finally add ghee and mix well.
-
Allow the mixture to cool and then make small balls (its not actually a ball, check the picture) out of the mixture and steam cook the balls by placing it in a idli plate and keep it in pressure cooker for 5 mins.
-
Now the mouth-watering Pidi Kozhukattai is ready for neivedhyam and also for serving.
Please ensure the millet is not over roasted otherwise it will affect the taste. Also do not over cook the kozhukattai which will make the kozhukatai hard. Do not boil jaggery syrup for long time this will also make your kozhukattai hard.
