Lemon Rasam

Lemon rasam is one of the most liked rasam varities in our home. It is bit different from our conventional rasam where in we add tomato and thurdhal. Here we add lemon for the sour and and the thurdhal is replaced by the moong dhal. For a change why dont you try lemon rasam and let me know your feedback

Ingredients:
Moong dhal - 1/4 cup
Tomato (optional) - 1
Green chillies - 3
Ginger - 1 small piece
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Salt - To taste
Water - 2 Cups
Lemon - 1
Coriander leaves - Few

For Seasoning:
Ghee - 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon

Method:
  • Add turmeric powder, salt  to the dhal and let the dhal is fully cooked in pressure cooker
  • In a separate pan, pour the ghee and add the mustard seeds, when the mustard seeds finished sputtering add curry leaves, vertically slit green chillies, crushed ginger and fry for a minutes

  • In a vessel add chopped tomatoes, salt and 1/2 cup of water and allow it to cook in flame. Add the seasoned ingredients to this.

  • After the tomatoes cooked completely, add smashed dal and adjust the water and allow it to boil. When the rasam starts to boil add chopped coriander leaves and remove from flame

  • Allow the rasam to cool off and then add the lemon juice extract. Adjust the lemon juice for your taste. 
  • Delicious Lemon Rasam is ready to serve with plain rice.
